View Full Version : Q about Sikh religion...
Just curious.. maybe the Sikh members on the forum can help me.. i know Hindu's cant eat meat for religious reasons.. is it the same for Sikhs? Can Sikhs eat chicken? meat? also egg?
let me know cheers!
Hey Kayz, I knew a bit about the topic, but didn't want to provide any wrong info so I did a lil' seach on the net. Here's what I found:
Some Sikhs are vegetarian, but this is personal choice. Sikhs may eat any type of meat including beef. The only food restriction for Sikhs is that they must not eat meat from an animal that has been ritually slaughtered. Examples of ritually slaughtered meat are the Muslim halal meat and Jewish kosher meat. In both cases God is invoked at the time of the animal's killing. Also, Sikhs must not eat food that has been offered to idols.
Hope that answers your question.
well u got a sikh on the way soon!

basically Jains follow the teachings of 24 Thirthankars... the last one that is the 24th is Lord Mahavir and hes the main of all...and according to the beliefs of Jains the Universe was never created and never will vanish :oh
time is jus divided into small time cycles in progression and regression....
that clears it?

Jains are PURE vegans
So if a Jain chooses to eat meat he/she is a sinner?

Interesting... the reason why i ask is because we've got some Sikh Builders around and ofcourse my mums cooking for us and them... and the meat is Halal.. and my mum gave them curry, daal, meat curry, egg with some other mixes and their eating... i had a thought and knew they werent allowed to eat something... so i thought id check here.. and then my mum confirmed.. their not allowed to eat meat or eggs, but their still eating... so i was puzzled. :)

I see... well they knew well we were muslims! I guess some are stricter than others like you get in all religions.
I brought up this topic with my Mom earlier. According to her everyone has their personal opinions about eating meat. There is nothing written in the Granth (the holy book) about the subject.
